A life-changing program for a hungry student
Caring for her mother caused Margaret to miss work and lose her retail job. When her mother passed away Margaret took responsibility for raising her little sister who was then in primary school, in addition to her own two children, without a salary.
They live in a flat with her uncle who does occasional labour to help with expenses. Margaret also enrolled her sister at Florida Park High School and had to pay fees as well as stationery and uniform costs.
Margaret’s sister no longer has to worry about whether there will be something to eat and this has reflected in her school work. Early last year Margaret thought her sister would have to repeat, but she managed to pass and move on to Grade 10. Margaret feels that the monthly groceries she received from Humaniti, via Africa Food for Thought, were sent by God.
