Care packages for mothers who carry it all

Mother’s Day is a beautiful celebration to show our love, appreciation, and respect to those who raised us. We shower them with love in an attempt to give back everything they gave to us. We buy tokens of gratitude, a lush bouquet of flowers or a sweet box of chocolates.

Every loving and hardworking mother deserves to be appreciated. But many don’t receive flowers on this special day. Some see this day as just like any other because they haven’t had someone show that appreciation.

Lone-parent families are led predominantly by women. These mothers carry the world on their shoulders. They care for their children and work to provide for their family, often putting themselves second, like so many parents do.

Their strength should not be overlooked. Instead, they should be celebrated. This is why on May 12th, 2024, Humaniti, along with Sacred Hands and the police forces delivered 1,1000 flowers and care packages to single mothers across the GTA. This day would be different than the rest.

Bright tulips, coloured daisies and yellow marigolds wrapped in decorative paper were personally put in the hands of these hardworking mothers. The smiles on their faces, as they received a hearty meal and a bouquet, reinforced the importance of spreading care and love to these pillars of our families.

While this package cannot make the challenges they face go away, it can foster a sense of community and care, showing these women that they are cared for, valued and appreciated. Regent Park, Mississauga, Brampton, Empringham, Danzig, North York, and recipients of the One Parent program were among the key locations where Humaniti and Sacred Hands made deliveries.

Humaniti was built on the idea of empowering, caring for and providing dignity to communities and individuals.  Whether through direct aid, mental health resources, or sustainable development projects, the organization strives to put a spotlight on those who are often overlooked.

The success of this campaign highlights the need to uplift and support single mothers. While Mother’s Day is a special occasion to honour them, the challenges they face exist year-round. Humaniti and Sacred Hands remain committed to finding ways to empower and assist these women, whether through direct aid, community engagement, or ongoing programs that provide long-term support.

This initiative was not just about a single day of generosity—it was about fostering a culture of care, recognition, and compassion for single mothers, ensuring that they feel seen, supported, and appreciated every day of the year.
