Lifesaving nutrition for moms and babies in need

Malnutrition affects many mothers and children in Pakistan. As per the National Health Survey of Pakistan, one out of every three children is malnourished (Aga Khan University, 2012). In one year an estimated 25,000 people, including children, will have a nutritious and healthy

meal from RUTF’s.

Ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) are nutrient-based pastes that were created to treat severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in children. Usually created with peanuts, milk powder, sugar, and other ingredients, it is a ready-to-eat, paste-like meal. Because RUTF is simple to administer and doesn’t need to be refrigerated, it makes it the perfect solution to battle hunger among those who are malnourished.

Recently, our volunteers visited a village where families lived in homes built from wood, fabric, and other locally sourced materials. The setting is rural and resources are limited, but the strength and resilience of the community are deeply evident.

Humaniti believes in showcasing compassion and creating connections with those we are serving. Our volunteers sat with these mothers and the people of these communities, listening to their stories and their concerns. We were able to meet those concerns with solutions by distributing these RUTFs to those who needed them most. Mothers held their children close and smiled as they received these packages. Sitting with families, they had open conversations about how RUTFs work, how to use them safely, and how they fit into daily life.

Humaniti’s approach is grounded in compassion, not charity — rooted in the belief that meaningful change happens when we work in partnership with communities.

The work is ongoing, but the message is clear: every child deserves a chance to grow up healthy, and every parent deserves support in making that possible.
